NO REENACTMENT for 2014.
**********
October 5-6 -- Saturday and Sunday, 2 battles.
Welcome to our Battle of Collierville site. We hope that you will join us for this unique reenacting experience.
THE SITE:
For the Sherman vs Chalmers Collierville scenerio, an authentic US earthworks fort is being constructed using original plans of the US Engineer Corps. This is the type of series of forts constructed to protect a major Union supply and communications line, the Memphis & Charleston Railroad. These forts were built every 3 to 6 miles to protect this vital rail line.
THE GROUND: Our leased land is a 200-acre farm located about 15 miles east of Memphis, on the northeast side of Collierville, TN, and easy to get to. Please see the Directions page. The portion of land that we are using for the event has been used for raising hay; no cattle here. Thus there are no ticks, fleas, chiggers, etc. , but you might want to bring mosquito spray. The ground has no ruts and good drainage, Despite any rain, our ground is still solid. The terrain is rolling land, woods, some flatlands (not much), and some great ground to fight over.
PUBLIC SAFETY: We are fortunate in that we've never had any major accidents or incidents in any reenactment we've put on. Nevertheless, we're prepared. We've arranged with the town government to have 24-hour police patrols and traffic controls, 24-hour fire truck nearby, 24-hour EMT's not far from the Baptist Hospital. You won't find a better protected event.
CHECK IN: Reenactor Registration is located at the main gate (Schilling Blvd) [which is just south of Poplar Ave, Hwy 57]. When you check in at Reenactor Registration you'll need to sign the usual event waiver, get a parking pass, get the site map, etc. You will then be directed to the military HQ where your unit is assigned (or has volunteered). There you will be directed to your unit's campsite.
Military: Command for 2012 is
CS - Col Billy Altom
US - Col Barry Ayers.
Camping: good high ground, with your choice of woods or open. US, CS, & civilian camps offer both.
Food: there will be several food vendors on site, such as BBQ, burgers, hot dogs, corn dogs, pizza, mexican, ice cream, kettle corn, & more. Plus, there are convenience stores nearby if you need to buy anything, and the town of Collierville is only 1 mile away.
Sutlers: yes,sutlers too.
Ladies' Tea: Saturday, at 11:00 a.m. in the Activities Tent. Two presentations on period subjects.
Grand Ball: Saturday night at 7:00, featuring the 52nd Regimental String Band, a great dance band, and, as the late Shelby Foote said, "the best and most entertaining Civil War band" he's ever heard.
Church Service: Sunday, 10:00 a.m. Service by Frank Kirtley. Always memorable.
We're glad that you're going to join us for this great event.
